Afforestation Research

Ruler

The Pūharakekenui has had past restoration efforts take place for many years. The aim of this project was to see how authentic these restoration plantings were and how they can be improved. The project was also aimed at creating a citizen science aspect to restoration which will increase public engagement with the Pūharakekenui catchment and create learning opportunities for the community.

As a result of this work completed by Janelle Rice and Anna Manning, we will be setting up forest citizen science transects and have more knowledge about the authenticity of afforestation efforts in the Pūharakekenui. This research was supervised by Dr. Antony Shadbolt, Mark Bloomberg and Jon Sullivan.
