Health and Safety
Health and safety is a priority for the Styx Living Laboratory Trust. Our Health and Safety Portfolio is run by Anita Spencer. This Portfolio has the responsibility for updating the Trust's health and safety policies/protocols as required and ensuring that our health and safety procedures are being followed across our operations.

We believe that:
- No business objective will take priority over health and safety
- All incidents are preventable
- We all have responsibility for health and safety
- All personnel have the responsibility to stop any job they believe is unsafe or cannot be continued in a safe manner
To achieve this, we commit to:
- Maintaining and continually improving our Health and Safety Management System
- Clearly defining employer and employee responsibilities
- Proactively identifying hazards and unsafe behaviours and taking steps to manage these to as low as reasonably practicable
- Designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining our assets so that they safeguard people and property
- Setting objectives and targets for improvement and measuring, appraising, and reporting on our performance
- Assessing and recognising the health and safety performance of employees and contractors
- Consulting and actively promoting the participation with employees and contractors to ensure they have the training, skills, knowledge, and resources to maintain a healthy and safe workplace
- Accurately reporting and investigating of incidents in a timely manner
- Supporting the safe return to work of injured employees
- Requiring our contractors to demonstrate the same commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety performance
- Complying with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and industry standards
We are always open to improving our health and safety and are more than happy to share our health and safety moments with any other organisation in Ōtautahi.
